Learn Spanish
The world's fourth most spoken language. Build real fluency by producing the language, not just recognizing it.
Why learn Spanish?
Spanish is spoken by over 500 million people across Spain, Latin America, and beyond. It's the official language of 20 countries, the second most spoken native language in the world, and one of the most useful languages for travel, work, and connecting with Spanish-speaking communities.
Spanish grammar is regular enough to be learnable, yet rich enough to keep you challenged. The distinction between ser and estar, the subjunctive mood, and the nuances of por vs para will stretch your thinking about how languages express reality.
Castilian or Latin American?
Spanish varies across regions. Lingoberry lets you choose which variant to learn:
πͺπΈ Castilian Spanish
Spanish as spoken in Spain. Uses vosotros for informal plural you, has the distinctive c and z pronunciation (distinciΓ³n), and uses vocabulary like ordenador (computer) and mΓ³vil (mobile phone).
Best for: traveling to Spain, European business
π²π½ Latin American Spanish
Spanish as spoken in Mexico and most of Latin America. Uses ustedes for all plural you (no vosotros), pronounces c and z as s (seseo), and uses computadora and celular.
Best for: the Americas, wider global reach
Pick your variant when you create a language pair. You can switch anytime from your dashboard, and you can even learn both variants side by side if you want.

The ser vs estar challenge
Both verbs translate to "to be" in English, but Spanish uses them for fundamentally different concepts. Ser describes identity and permanent characteristics; estar describes states and locations. "Soy aburrido" means you're a boring person. "Estoy aburrido" means you're bored right now.
Lingoberry exercises will challenge you with both β and Pip's feedback explains exactly why one was right and the other wasn't.
Exercises at your level
Lingoberry uses CEFR levels (A1 through C2) to match exercises to your current ability. Start at A1 with basic vocabulary and present tense, or jump to B2 for subjunctive and conditional constructions.
